Dr. Peter Reinhard Hansen, the Latane Distinguished Professor of Economics at UNC-Chapel Hill, has been named to the 2016 list of “Most Highly Cited Researchers” in the natural and social sciences published annually by Clarivate Analytics
To determine the most highly cited researchers, Clarivate Analytics examined the number of citations for contemporary research papers published between 2004 and 2014 by all researchers world-wide. Highly Cited Papers were those in the highest percentile for their ESI category and year of publication. Approximately 3,000 researchers, and only 69 in the category of “Economics and Business,” were named to the list. Dr. Hansen was also named to this list in 2014 and 2015.
A citation is the reference in a published article to another researcher’s previous publications. The number of citations that a published article receives is widely used as a measure of the impact of that article in advancing the knowledge and understanding of other researchers. Clarivate Analytics is a recently spun-off subsidiary of the publishing corporation Thomson Reuters. It publishes the citation-measurement software “Web of Science.”
