Happy holidays from Chapel Hill!

You probably remember this time of year at Carolina. Your parents and friends were all holiday shopping and house-decorating, while you were attending classes and studying obsessively for your final exams. It’s rare for those in college to envy those not in college, but I’m sure it’s true in Chapel Hill during the Christmas season.  Everyone’s now home for the holidays, and we are making our list (and checking it twice) of courses for the spring term.

This is a holiday greeting to all of you in the Economics Department Advisory Group.  We’ve taken large steps forward as a department in recent years, and we have benefited from your advice and support throughout.  I want you all to know how much we appreciate that support.  As a reminder of what we’ve done, I’ve attached a few news articles from the fall term.  You’ll be able to read more at econ.unc.edu, or in the print newsletter that will arrive in your box shortly.

I also attach one sad reminder of 2016:  David McFarland, a colleague and Economics Department stalwart, passed away.  For those of you who met him on campus, I’m sure you have very positive memories.

Best wishes for the new year, and I hope that you will include a trip to our Advisory Group meeting on your calendar.  Ronda Manuel will be in touch shortly with the date of our spring meeting.
