Dear Friends:
Chapel Hill is always an active community, but its pulse is speeding these days. The Chancellor and Provost will welcome over 4000 new first-year and transfer students to the Carolina campus at student convocation this fall. We are expecting many of them to join our Economics community of undergraduate majors and Entrepreneurship minors — a group that is about 1300 strong at present. Gardner Hall is bursting at its seams!
I’ll meet many of the new students in my Economics 101 class. The students bring so many fresh perspectives to our discipline that the science is never “dismal”, though it can seem chaotic at times. You’ll find in the posts that follow some stories from the Economics Department that span the “commencement to convocation” time period. I hope you’ll enjoy learning more about what we’ve done. If you have questions, comments or concerns please don’t hesitate to contact me.
We very much appreciate the support of generous alumni, parents and friends of the University. Private support allowed us to recruit and retain outstanding faculty members to the Economics Department and to provide extraordinary learning opportunities for our students inside and outside of the classroom. If you are interested in making an investment in our students and faculty in the Department, please click here.
Best wishes to you from the faculty and staff in Carolina Economics; we hope to see you in Chapel Hill soon.
