Our end-of-year events are not all formal-attire ceremonies.  In early May our graduate students faced off against the faculty in a “friendly” soccer match.   The faculty brought their game faces, the grad students brought their A game, and we gave new meaning to the term “the beautiful game”.

In the picture to the right Professor Neville Francis challenges grad students Amed El-Khattabi and Zach Mozenter.  Both sides fought with passion and good humor; the good humor on the grad students’ side was most in evidence when the professors “promoted” two grad students and an outside player to the professorial ranks.

The Professors won the match 7-3 after 90 challenging minutes.  The grad students smiled and said “wait till next year”.  The professors were sure that they couldn’t do this more than once a year …

The graduate-student roster included Chunxiao Li, Mahnaz Parsanasab, Jose Campillo-Garcia, Andrew Hanson, Quinton White, Eddie Watkins, Zachary Mozenter, Deepak Gautam, Jay Dennis, Adam Haas, Gonzalo De Asis Ruiz, Danny Soques, and Amed El-Khattabi.

The Professors were Neville Francis, Andy Yates, Tiago Pires, Simon Alder, Valentin Verdier, Patrick Conway, and Toan Phan.
